Dylan Xinming HOU | 侯新铭

Hi, I am Dylan Xinming Hou, an M.S. student in Machine Learning at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, working with Gus Xia at Music X Lab. Previously, I received my B.E. in Artificial Intelligence from the Gaoling School of Artificial Intelligence, Renmin University of China, where I worked with Wayne Xin Zhao on NLP-related research.

My previous research has explored several areas of machine learning, including LLMs, digital agents, multimodality, interpretability, AI safety, mind-inspired (world) models, and human-AI interaction. These projects shaped my technical background and gradually led me to questions that are more interdisciplinary and human-facing.

My current work at Music X Lab, especially on human-AI affective interaction and mind-inspired models, has become a bridge between these technical explorations and more human-centered questions. This has led me to a growing interest in human-centered AI and human-AI interaction: how people perceive, trust, use, and adapt to rapidly evolving AI systems, and how AI can be designed in ways that better reflect human needs, values, and social contexts.

Research interests

My current research direction focuses on human-AI interaction, human-centered evaluation & alignment, and AI trustworthiness and safety, with the broader goal of advancing AI for social good.

Specifically, I am interested in:

  • how to evaluate and align AI systems around human needs, values, and social contexts;
  • how to build trustworthy AI systems that remain interpretable, safe, and useful in real-world interaction;
  • how mind-inspired models and digital agents can support more natural, adaptive, deeper, and socially responsible human-AI collaboration.

  • Human-centered AI
  • Human-centered evaluation & alignment
  • AI trustworthiness and safety
  • Digital agents
